Frozen Jr.

Kids First Theater has been rehearsing for several weeks preparing for this epic production of Frozen Jr.  (Frozen 2 being released shortly thereafter in theaters.)

The enchanting modern classic from Disney is ready for the Youngstown area and the Oakland Center is bringing it to you first!  Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production.

The Oakland Center will be at the YSU Summer Festival of the Arts this weekend and introducing ourselves again to the public.  Kids from Kids First Theater Initiative will be on the stage performing from many of our recent productions this year, Lion King Jr, Adventures of Flat Stanley,A Christmas Story and others. We will have staff members there to answer any questions regarding our programs at the Oakland Center.  2019-2020 Season are going to offer more area premieres of productions never seen in this area before.

Also, we are closing our show, GODSPELL this Sunday afternoon, and will have tickets for sale on site.

Kids First Theater is gearing up for a great musical from the 1970s.

Directed by Donna Downie

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, "Day by Day," Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All for the Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side."

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables.

Our 4th Successful year!

The best way to get your child involved in our program is to start with our summer program
This year it runs from June 10-21 Mon-Thur 8:30-1:30. We give them a continental breakfast, and a homemade lunch. Cost for the two week camp is only 130.00 which is the most affordable summer camp in the area. 
During the camp we will pack a lot new lessons and techniques for all of our kids.
Pat Fagan, who ran the children's theatre program for the over 30 years, will do two workshops one week will focus on drama. and one week will focus on comedy.
Donna Downie, Brendan Byers and Oakland staff will cover both the music of "Beauty and the Beast" and "Frozen" ( we will be presenting beauty and the Beast at the end of the summer, and Frozen in late fall early winter)
We will also have an "audition workshop" and we will produce a music video, with all we learned packed into the two weeks!

ElHatton David Memorial Scholarship Dinner fundraiserThis is a scholarship program named by the Oakland Center's Acorn Project Youth Board of Directors for local performer and director David El'Hatton. The Acorn Project is one of a kind program for high school-aged teenagers that fully immerses them in all aspects of theatre. With the help of professional theatre mentors, they get hands-on experience in directing, choreographing, light, sound, and set design, and construction.
To give the kids full exposure to how theatre works, they also design and implement the marketing and promotions, create budgets, and manage a bank for numerous junior shows during a season around the theatre program.

Share your Skills

Community theaters need more than just cast members. Anyone that can sew a costume, paint a backdrop, build a staircase, or edit a sound effect is a desirable addition to the company.
